Has anyone here ever played Minecraft? I’m finding many people of the older generation take one look at the game and immediately are put off by it. They can’t even admit that they play it unless it’s “with their kids”, and even then they make it sound like an annoying thing they do out of obligation. It’s almost as if the game’s not all that great, but they play it “because their kids like it”. I find this very interesting seeing as Minecraft to me would appeal to people of an older generation a lot more than the younger one. If the majority of farmville players are middle-aged women, then why wouldn’t more middle-aged people be interested in this game? It’s a sandbox game full of things you can do… explore, fight, collect, build, craft, farm, breed animals, discover… and some of these you can do while you’re doing other ones. What’s with the “I’m too cool for this” attitude I keep seeing?
Understanding Server Administration
I learned nothing about servers from college. I graduated with an Associate’s Degree in IT Web Development, and learned nothing about servers. Everything I learned, I got from google.
I tell people I run 2 servers out of my house, and they stand back in awe. To me it’s not all that great a feat… It’s just 2 repurposed Dell desktop PC’s that have been reformatted and a linux distribution put on them (currently running Debian).
Music Player Purgatory: Subsonic Saves the Day!
I remember a time when I had a walkman. Oddly enough, it doesn’t feel that long ago. I remember having to carry all my tapes with me, and having to flip the damn thing every time I wanted to hear more. I remember if I wanted to hear a song again, I had to press rewind and wait for it to get back to the beginning. I also had one of those cheap walkmans, so there wasn’t any happy “seek” function to be able to tell me whether or not it had reached the track I wanted to hear. A lot of times, I had to hear bits and pieces, then click the rewind button or fast forward button over and over until I was sure I was at the beginning of the track. It got to the point where I’d finally just gotten lazy and figured any time I listened to tape, I’d just listen to the whole thing.
Why Korn?
Those that know me know that I love lots of heavy metal and alternative metal. When I say my favorite band is Korn, I usually get blank stares. “Meh, I liked their old stuff” I usually hear too.
I like nu metal in general, but why is Korn at the top? Because Korn is more than music.
