We’re all responsible for our own actions. And as explained before, you don’t need to be a slave to social acceptance. And yet, whether you want to believe it or not, the company you keep will influence you.
Social Situations – Conscience and Honesty
Honesty is the best policy. Heheh – honestly! Unfortunately, in social situations, it can be the bane of your existence. I mean how many people would talk to you if you gave your real, honest, truthful opinion about everything?
You’d probably come across as an asshole.
And yet, on the other hand, you can’t lie to people. At some point it breaks down. Let me give you a scenario.
Quick Note: Money and Greed
I hear all the time that “money cannot buy happiness”. I also hear “money is the root of all evil.”
I’ve been broke for quite a while, and I gotta say that this is a load of crap.
Finding Inner Peace
Inner peace. I want the operative word there to be “inner”, because to me that’s the only peace that’s worthwhile. I especially want to focus on “inner” because I tried to focus on manipulating peace around me, and found myself lost.
Satan is Not Real – Human Weakness Is
Many times I’ve heard Christians say “Satan tempted me.” They’ll get angry sometimes and say “I let the devil get the better of me.” “That’s the devil talking.”
I think that’s a convenient excuse, and it’s a cop out. Why admit your own weakness when you can cop out by saying you were manipulated by an invisible being?
God as a Guide
I’ve heard many times that God has a divine plan. People also think God controls the weather, earthquakes, and volcanoes. They believe that God punishes people. Then they turn around and ask “Why does God let there be pain, starvation, murder, and suffering?”
Is God Real?
There is most definitely something higher than you, and if you don’t believe it, I challenge you to take 100% control of your life. Can’t do it, can you? That means there most definitely is something that’s more powerful than you out there. Whether that be a God, or fate, or just an ongoing motion of life that’s playing out.
Who Do You Pray To?
I was raised with the Christian commandment of “there shall be no other gods before Me”. Basically, it means you will pray to God, and only God, and if you don’t, you’ll burn eternally in hell.
I always interpreted that line differently… Rather than saying “you will not”, I always read it as “you can not.” As in, it’s just not physically possible to pray to any other god, no matter how much you believe you are.
What It's Like to Be a JSP Developer
I’ve been coding web front-ends in jsp for 6 years now, and I’ve dabbled in PHP and asp.net a bit as well. I’m writing this article both to rant and to give some insight as to any other prospective web developers. I can’t really get into asp.net because I don’t know much about it, but my reasons for disliking it are pretty much narrowed down to 2: Visual Studio (the program you have to use to code in asp.net) is a giant resource hog, and all code runs on a Windows server. Windows is not a decent server platform (this is pretty much accepted as fact today).
