Blind assumptions – Proving my mother wrong

I’m writing this entry to prove my mother wrong, and for any other fellow music lovers who are having this argument with their parents.

She is convinced that metal is “just a bunch of screaming and yelling and noise!” Yes, she would be the expert on that, wouldn’t she? I find this truly entertaining, since she’s never actually sat down and listened to an entire album of metal music in her life. I, on the other hand, have listened to countless albums in the metal genre, and can conclude this: some metal genres contain nothing but screaming, but most of them don’t.

My Stripped Down Tabletop System

After looking at the Microlite20 system, I came to realize that a lot of tabletop games are grievously over-complicated and counter-intuitive. With this in mind (and after watching a few other tabletop games played) I decided to customize my own tabletop gaming system. It’s a stripped down simplified system designed to help you get a character created in about 5-10 minutes and get the game going. The battle system is also simplified. Without further ado, this is my own custom-made tabletop system, optimized for both fantasy and science fiction games, inspired by Microlite20 and the Yogscast’s “Yogsquest” series.

I Just Don't Like Country – How To Bash A Genre The Right Way

What’s interesting to me about these music journalists that point a finger at an entire genre in disgust is that despite these articles being “personal opinion pieces”, they bring absolutely nothing personal about themselves to the article. They talk about what they don’t like about a genre, but they never give you any qualification to their opinion. Who are you? What do you like? And what does the music you like actually do for you? What need is it satisfying? What have you been through to hold such a strong appreciation for the songs you like?

But, rather than bitch about how people do it wrong (as I’ve done a few times before), I figured I’d lead by example.
Without further ado, I give you: Why I Don’t Like Country Music.

Why I never liked Korn's 'Hater'

The reason is because this song’s been done too many times already, in a variety of different ways. The song’s message is to not let people break you down. The context here is that you’ve already suffered a lot, and persevered, and you’re not going away.

The problem is this song doesn’t offer anything new, and its musical composure is lazy. What happened to the Korn that used to confess and relive a struggle? I cannot connect with this song because it’s so devoid of any emotional passion.
