I saw a post from Verizon about why unlimited data is a bad thing.
This post, containing a picture of some random-ass white man that nobody cares about, has the audacity to state:
“Let’s face it, if everyone had unlimited data and used it fully, the performance of the networks would suffer because of bandwidth restrictions and the “shared resource” nature of wireless.”
They present that most people just connect to wifi for data hungry apps, and that you don’t ever use enough for unlimited data anyway. Then they say that limiting your usage helps.
There are so many incorrect things in this article that I could spend weeks playing “spot the fallacy” with it.
While it’s true, a bunch of people using the data network at once will degrade the network, limiting the data plan does not solve this problem. Say we all have limited data plans… all of us with 8GB max. Then one night, everyone uses their data plan at once to access stuff. How exactly does your limitation of their data solve this problem? People are still on the network, are they not? They’re all using it at its top speed, so … what does this solve exactly?
Hey Verizon, let’s face it, if your network was running better hardware, the performance of the networks would improve, bypassing network restrictions and no longer making “shared resources nature” of wireless a problem.
You solve this problem with more hardware. But you won’t use that solution. Why? Because you don’t make as much money that way. You get to gouge us with prices, and never upgrade your hardware. Don’t patronize us with bullshit like “well, we don’t want to congest the network traffic” when really the problem is “we like our profit margins and don’t want them to change.” You narrow-minded morons. Don’t you think that if your network increased, more people would cancel their service and join yours? “Hey, I get an unlimited data plan, and a kickass network that never lags? Where do I sign up?!” I have zero marketing experience, and even I could make that sound awesome. It’s laying right there in your laps.
I can accept the fact that I have a limited data plan, but don’t lie to my face.
