There is most definitely something higher than you, and if you don’t believe it, I challenge you to take 100% control of your life. Can’t do it, can you? That means there most definitely is something that’s more powerful than you out there. Whether that be a God, or fate, or just an ongoing motion of life that’s playing out.
Here’s something that’s real that you cannot deny: conscience. Unless you’re a sociopath, you have a conscience that guides your choices. Some have grown the ability to trick their conscience, but my conscience is way too smart for that. Do you ever do something that you regret? Are you ever happy that you did the right thing, even if you suffer as a result? You have no control over this, and your feelings for what you’ve done are absolutely real.
Instead of looking at “God” as a monotheistic being, I choose to look at “God” as a “higher power”. This deified power, for me anyway, is all that is good in life. I feel love, warmth, and wisdom from it. Maybe this higher power is actually my conscience, showing me what could be if I live my life honestly. I could be satisfied with this. It’s something positive to believe in.
In a sense, God is real, but maybe not in the way that these bibles tell you. They touch on it, and in many cases you’ll hear from people “See? God is telling you something…” They’ll tell you this when your life isn’t going well due to the choices you’ve made. Perhaps it’s your conscience telling you this.
For example, what if you’re in a bad relationship, and you need to leave and move on. Is that God telling you this, or your conscience? Or maybe it’s your will to be free and happy?
Something higher does exist… but it’s a gray area as to what it is. I’m satisfied knowing that whatever it is, it’s there, and I can live happily with its guidance.
